The Fast Food Craze

Author Avatar

How often do you go out for fast food?  I would guess that most people eat it at least once a week.  While there are worse things for you to eat, fast food is among one of the most unhealthy things you can put into your body.  Everything you are putting into your body has already been processed, and contains ingredients to make it last longer on the shelf.

In the past, if you bought a hamburger it most likely came from one cow.  Now, a hamburger from McDonald’s could contain meat from up to 1,000 different cattle raised in as many as five different countries.  Talk about the possibility of contamination or something else going wrong during the transportation process.

In 1968, McDonald’s changed its style and turned into a walk in “fast food” restaurant.  they originally served fresh food.  However, they eventually moved to the processed products that we eat (and sometimes enjoy) today.  Look where we are 40 years later — we are larger in size, overall unhealthier and at risk for many other diseases; mostly because of fast food.

To me, this is a prime example of how the United States (and maybe the World) is becoming lazy.  When we sacrifice quality for quantity (money), something has gone very wrong.  Avoid the fast food if you can — cook the food yourself.  You will be saving more than a buck.

I am more than aware that people pick what they eat, and in most cases, are at fault for their own issues caused by fast food.  However, where would we be if the portions were not as big, and the quality of food was the same as in 1968?  I do not think we would have anywhere near the same number of health problems in the country.
