Dogs can and do have sunburn. There may be redness to the skin and some hair loss. The areas most prone to sunburn are the ears, inside of the legs, underside of the dog and the nose. With dogs, there is the concern with reflected ultraviolet radiation. Left on their own, dogs will seek shade when feeling any discomfort. However, when a dog wants to be with you on the beach, boat or whatever outside activity, that shade may not be readily available.

You may take note of the dogs who are part of the ski patrol crews. That moisture on the dog’s nose might be some form of sunblock or sun protection, for work outside at altitude. Some use special preparations so that the scent does not create a problem for these working dogs. - Ask your veterinarian what is recommended for your dog. And yes, there are doggy goggles too for your canine pal.
