To help IT pros fine-tune their networks with minimal pain, InfoWorld.com is offering a no-cost, 10-class course via email on best practices for managing local area networks (LANs). The Networking Boot Camp starts on Monday, April 12, and to participate you must sign up on or before Sunday, April 11.

Next version of iPhone OS to support multitasking? (Ben Patterson)

Ben Patterson – One of the biggest complaints about the iPhone — and the upcoming iPad, for that matter — is that it doesn’t allow third-party applications to run in the background. According to one popular Apple blog, though, full-on multitasking support could be coming to the iPhone sooner rather than later.

Droid mercifully gets a manual 2.1 update option

As is pleasantly often the case with Android devices, it turns out there’s already a quick, easy, nearly painless way to circumvent the phased rollout of Android 2.1 to Verizon’s Droids out in the field. Anyone who’s already been through this will feel right at home with the process: grab the binary straight from Google (so you know it’s legit, which is always nice), rename the file, transfer it to your microSD card, and reboot to the recovery mode screen. The rest is pretty self-evident, and when all is said and done, you’ll have a Droid equipped with the very latest and greatest that Google has to offer. Let us know how it goes, y’hear?

New Cisco Products Make Home Wireless Simple (NewsFactor)

NewsFactor – Cisco Systems unveiled a new Linksys router lineup Wednesday that promises to make it easier for consumers to customize and control their home wireless networks. Cisco also is copying the design simplicity of its Flip Video products in a new wireless router called Valet.
