What Is a Usenet Search Engine?
Unlike the World Wide Web, Usenet was not as easy to do searches on until recently. In the last few years, Usenet enthusiasts created ways to make Usenet easier to browse. Usenet Search was created. Before Usenet search became popular in the Usenet community, a user actually had to log onto a news server, download all the Newsgroups, download all the headers (describes article information) in the Newsgroups and then browse through the subject lines- headers to see if the article or newsgroup was of any interest to him. With new Newsgroups being added all the time, it was impossible to keep up with. Today, Usenet is easy. There are services that either come with your Newsreader software or websites specifically dedicated to helping you search Usenet. These sites are called NZB sites or Indexing sites. They do not contain any actual article information that is found on Usenet, but it just allows a user to search Usenet much easier.
