New iPhone apps worth downloading: Swoon, Gravity Guy 2, Evilot for iPad

Hit the weekend and search for potential dates in your area with Swoon, today’s first app worth downloading. It lets you anonymously search profiles of other singles near you and “like” them, and if two people “like” each other, they’re given the option to send messages. We’ve also got some games for your weekend: Gravity Guy 2, an endless runner that tasks you with controlling the floor beneath your character’s feet, and Evilot, a puzzle defense iPad game in which you play a villain who has to defend his horde of treasure from pesky heroes.

Sony’s 13.3-inch e-ink paper prototype shown off at education expo in Japan (video)

Earlier this week, we learned of Sony’s plans for a 13.3-inch e-ink slate with stylus support pitched at students, and now Diginfo has caught up with the prototype device at the Educational IT Solutions Expo in Japan. The A4-sized tablet is said to be the first piece of hardware with an E Ink Mobius display that’s flexible and light due to its new plastic construction. Co-developed by Sony and E Ink, the display only contributes 60g to the overall weight, which is apparently 50 percent lighter than similar screens built with glass. Sony says the software isn’t quite as slick as it’d like it to be just yet, but nevertheless, you can check out people scrawling, annotating and highlighting on the prototype in the video below.

When the game works, it works great. Even with only the two starting classes (the rest are hiding behind a level grind, though you can always opt to buy them instead) there is plenty of fun to be had. The maps are well designed, and the three vehicle types are all extremely empowering, yet not too overpowered. You can take tanks and helicopters down Rambo-style assuming you can get close.
